Ingredients
The list of ingredients is short, but each ingredient was chosen for a specific reason and purpose.
Potatoes – Use russet potatoes for this recipe. Yukon or Idaho potatoes can be used as well with great results.
Oil – Less than a quarter cup is needed to coat the potatoes just enough to crisp and caramelize these fries.
Garlic salt – This gives the fries a great amount of flavor without needing to use tons of ingredients or doing a lot of work. The fries don’t scream garlic fries though. They are definitely seasoned fries, not garlic fries.
Paprika – Also imparts great flavor to the fries as well as gives the fries a slight reddish color that one associates with seasons fries. We eat with our eyes you know, so if you can see the seasoning, you are more able to taste the seasoning.
Onion powder – This ingredient plays a double role. Not only does it give the French fries a great savory flavor, but the onion powder also helps the fries crisp up because it absorbs some of the moisture from the cut potatoes.
How to make the best easy seasoned fries
Follow these steps for the best 30-minute seasoned oven fries.
- Scrub and cut the potatoes. Make sure all the dirt is removed from the potatoes because you’ll be leaving the skins on. Next, cut the potatoes in half then into quarters. Slice the quarters into 1/4” thick fries.
- Oil and season the cut potatoes. Place the cut potatoes into a large bowl. Drizzle oil over them and toss to coat. Sprinkle on the seasonings and evenly coat the potatoes.
- Bake in a hot oven. Spread the seasoned fries over two unlined baking sheets, making sure not to crowd the pans.Bake in a 400 degree Fahrenheit oven for 25 minutes. Rotate the pans halfway through.
- Remove when crispy. When the fries are crisp, golden, and can easily release from the baking tray, remove them from the oven.
- Enjoy! These fries are great on their own, dipped in sauce, and/or on the side of a juicy burger.
Tips for making the best crispy seasoned oven fries
Want to make sure you’re successful in your oven roasted fry making? Check out these helpful tips below:
- Leave the skins on. Leaving the skin on the potatoes has several benefits to it. One, the skin offers a bit of added nutrition to the French fries. Two, it gives the fries a great rustic look. And three, the skin crisps super well in the oven, so leaving it on helps add some great crispness.
- Ensure the seasoning evenly coats the potatoes. You can achieve a nice even coat of seasonings by doing a few things. First, premix the seasonings in a bowl before adding to the fries. Second, sprinkle half the seasoning mix on the fries. Toss and coat the fries with the first half, then add the rest of the seasonings and toss again. Third, use your hands to help coat the potatoes evenly.
- Don’t line the sheet pans. You want the fries to have direct contact with the metal of the hot baking sheets. This helps develop that crispiness.
- Don’t crowd the sheet pan. Squeezing too many fries onto one baking sheet yields floppy, steamed fries. Give each fry it’s own space on the sheet pan.
- Rotate the sheet pans halfway through baking. This recipe makes enough for two sheet pans worth of fries. Switch and rotate the pans to ensure even baking on each pan.
- Only remove when crispy and can easily come off the sheet pan. Once the fries can easily release from the cookie sheet, then you know they’re good and crisp. If you try to remove the fries too soon, they’ll stick and the crisped edge will just stick to the pan (which is so very sad).
In conclusion, these 30-minute seasoned oven fries are a quick and delicious snack or side dish that can be easily prepared at home.
By following this simple recipe and utilizing common kitchen ingredients, you can enjoy crispy and flavorful fries without the need to deep fry.
With minimal effort and a short cooking time, these oven fries are a great option for satisfying your cravings in a faster, healthier way.
