Why you’ll love this chocolate chip banana mug cake recipe

This mug cake is all about convenience. It’s simple, quick, and surprisingly satisfying for something made in the microwave.

  • Ready in minutes – from mixing to eating in under 5 minutes.
  • Single serving – perfect when you want dessert without leftovers.
  • Made with pantry staples – no fancy ingredients or special tools needed.

Ingredients

  • Banana – The star of the recipe. It adds natural sweetness, moisture, and that classic banana bread flavor.
  • Whole wheat flour – Gives the mug cake structure and a slightly nutty taste that pairs well with banana.
  • Honey – A natural sweetener that blends smoothly into the batter and adds depth of flavor.
  • Vanilla – Enhances the overall sweetness and makes the cake taste more “bakery-style.”
  • Baking powder and baking soda– Helps the cake rise and become fluffy.
  • Salt – Balances the sweetness and brings out the chocolate flavor.
  • Mini chocolate chips – Use regular chocolate chips if you don’t have mini.

How to make healthy banana mug cake

  1. In a small mixing bowl, mash the banana until smooth.
  2. Add the honey and vanilla, and stir until combined.
  3. Add the baking soda, baking powder, and salt, mixing well to dissolve them into the wet ingredients.
  4. Fold in the whole wheat flour until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips.
  6. Lightly grease a microwave-safe mug.
  7. Pour the batter into the mug, filling it about ¾ full.
  8. Microwave for 1½ to 2 minutes, until the cake is set in the center.
  9. Let cool slightly, then enjoy straight from the mug!

Tips from my kitchen

  • Use a ripe banana. The riper it is, the sweeter and more flavorful your cake will be.
  • Don’t overmix. Stir just until combined to keep the cake soft and fluffy.
  • Watch the microwave. Every microwave is different, so start with 1½ minutes and add time if needed.
  • Add extras. A sprinkle of chopped nuts, a drizzle of peanut butter, or fresh banana slices on top takes it to the next level.

This banana chocolate chip mug cake is proof that great desserts don’t have to be complicated.

With just a few basic ingredients and a microwave, you can have a warm, comforting treat in minutes.

It’s perfect for busy days, late-night cravings, or anytime you want something sweet without the hassle.

Grab a spoon, cozy up, and enjoy every chocolatey bite—right out of the mug.
