Making this healthy strawberry crisp is simple and comes together with just a few pantry ingredients and fresh or frozen strawberries.
Here’s how to make it step-by-step:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- Make the crisp topping: In a medium bowl, combine whole wheat flour, old-fashioned oats, maple syrup, melted butter, a pinch of salt, and slivered almonds. Stir with a spoon until the mixture is crumbly and well mixed.
- Prepare the strawberries: In a large bowl, toss the strawberries with cornstarch and maple syrup until evenly coated.
- Assemble the crisp: Pour the strawberry mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread it out into an even layer. Then, crumble the oat mixture evenly over the top.

- Cool before serving: Let the crisp cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This allows the filling to set slightly for easier serving.

Strawberry crisp tips
Making a strawberry crisp that’s bursting with sweet flavor and topped with a perfectly golden crumble is easy!
These simple tips will help you get the best results every time—whether you’re baking it for a weeknight treat or sharing it at a summer gathering.
- Don’t skip the cornstarch. Cornstarch helps thicken the strawberry filling so it’s juicy but not runny. Without it, you’ll end up with soupy strawberries that will run every where.
- Mix the topping until crumbly. Stir the flour, oats, maple syrup, butter, and almonds until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
- Bake until bubbly and golden. The topping should be golden brown and the strawberries should be bubbling around the edges. This usually takes about 30–35 minutes—baking it long enough ensures the filling thickens properly and the topping gets nice and crisp.
- Let it cool before serving. Let the crisp rest for at least 30 minutes after baking. This gives the filling time to set and makes it easier to scoop without falling apart. Plus, it’s still a bit warm, perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop of whipped cream!

Conclusion
This healthy strawberry crisp is the perfect way to celebrate fresh, juicy strawberries in an easy dessert.
Sweetened naturally with maple syrup and topped with a golden oat-almond crumble, it’s a treat you can feel good about serving.
Whether you’re making it for a summer gathering or just craving something cozy and fruity, this crisp is easy to throw together and always a crowd-pleaser.
